This particular piece is one of many that were done by an American photographer named Charlie White. Charlie white has a knack for doing somewhat comical and sometimes very staged work. In this piece he does a study about how trans-gender women and pre-pubescent girls have almost the same traits. His process is he chooses a trans-gender woman, who was once a man, and a young girl who look very similar and has them stand next to each other topless and photographed from the collar bone up in order to compare them. The comparison he is portraying is that trans-gender women still have some male traits while at the same time since the young girls havent hit puberty ye they as well share some similar traits. This is interesting work because it is not only photographic art, but also a social experiment.
He spoke here about a year ago and had some of his pieces in the Center for Creative Photography. Although, I'm not sure if they are stll there.
